I haven't lost an Uncle Abraham or an Uncle Mohammed which is why I can sit here and give an opinion without prejudice. The Israeli response is revenge for a viscious attack but also revenge for their own failings to defend themselves they have spent many millions of dollars on fences and other forms of protection that failed. This is big embarrassment to Netanyahu and his allies and what he's done is not unthinking so much as a big smokescreen to avoid his own demise. Long term nothing much will change no matter how many bombs they drop or how many they kill the Palestinians will still be on the borders of Israel waiting their time. Hamas won't mind about civilian casualties it's how it gets its support it won't dampen their resolve just make them angrier. So in short what would I do ? Probably not what Israel has done .
Interesting post. Unfortunately in the UK at the moment such thoughts written down are so far against current government and general political policy to have you marked out as anti Zionist bordering on anti Semite. And pro Palestinian. Danllan is just mirroring official policy. Its all a mess. But a mess decades in the making. And just the current welling up.

I most certainly am anti Israel same as i’m anti Russia. It’s a dislike based on the actions of the state not the people. How the UK government can stand back and allow Israel free reign ‘ to protect itself ‘ is not only vomit inducing but also really stupid when the number of Muslims in the UK is approaching 4 million and they have a different take on the reasons for the Israeli- Palestinian conflict. Nobody in their right mind can ever support what Hamas did on the seventh of October and no one in their right mind can believe that what Israel is doing is going to make them safer in the longterm.

I think Israel do need to destroy/seriously reduce Hamas capabilities before progres can be made. But yeah it'd be a lot better if the Israelis and regional powers could actually come with up a long term plan to create and rebuild Palestine to delegitmise the messaging and tactics of Hamas.

Israel's problem is the other regional powers don't want that. The current ideologues in charge of Israel haven't wanted that (but may do now their previous strategy failed miserably). And the rest of the world don't have enough skin in the game.to force it.

In the Financial Times: “The evening Israel declared war on Hamas in Gaza, armed Jewish settlers descended on the Palestinian village of Wadi al-Seeq in the occupied West Bank. The village’s children tremble with fear as their parents recount how the settlers dragged three men from their families, stripped them to their underwear, blindfolded them with their own T-shirts and took turns beating them. When Abu Hassan, a 58-year-old Bedouin goatherd, begged for mercy and pointed to a scar from a recent heart surgery, one of the Israelis slammed a rifle butt into his chest. Then, they urinated on him.

“Leave! Go to Jordan, go wherever,” he remembers them shouting. “Or we will kill you.”

The village’s 30 families gathered what they could and fled, setting up camp on an open plain two hours away near the town of Taybeh, their tents billowing in the wind. Driven from their home of 21 years, and still fearful of every approaching car, the patriarch of the family, Mohammed Arrarah, 68, wondered aloud: “What is to be our fate?”

[...]The settlers gleefully share videos of assaults on Telegram channels with tens of thousands of subscribers. Abu Hassan’s beating was photographed by his attackers, and in another video from Hebron this week, men in Israeli military uniforms are heard laughing as they beat, bind and blindfold Palestinian men, several of them stripped naked.”

You cannot sort out Israel without getting rid of Netanyuhu. He has clung to power with the support of religous fanatics as reported above. There’s lots in Israel for whom peace really isn’t wanted.

BREAKINGGaza death toll exceeds 9,000

Some new figures to bring you from the Hamas-run health ministry, which says 9,061 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the present conflict began on 7 October.
This includes 3,760 children, the ministry adds. More than 32,000 others have been injured.

Aren't all religions?
Humans will find a way to fight, religion is not the cause.
There's fighting, then there's deliberately cutting off supplies to hospitals leaving the innocent patients/many children to endure a slow and painful death.

That's barbaric and inhumane. Just pray Putin doesn't use these actions as a precedent.

I see there are plans for a pro Palestinian protest on remberence day. The Palestinians (not hamas) currently have a fair bit of sympathy in this country at the moment. If this turned into an anti poppy anti veterans protest that would wipe out most of the support they have. They would be extremely stupid to go down this route

The intersectional left wants all Western values, traditions and institutions undermined; so don't hold your breath. These are idiots who call for women's and 'queer' rights while supporting fundamentalist Islamists, and are anti-colonialism while cheering on Russia and China, don't expect clear thinking. (y)

Fighting is just fighting as far as i am concerned.
Wars are nasty business, propaganda is needed and hard to pick through.
I am more interested in the need of non participants to be so involved than i am the rights and wrongs.
Both sides have their truth and justify fighting to themselves, that's all that's required.

The chief Israeli rabbi desribed gays as the "cult of abomination", which the Torah "punishes... with death". Are you suggesting that we should ignore our equality/human rights laws and adopt a similar stance?

Please do tell us the names of the politicians and the sections of the media who are undermining Western values .

The democratically elected leaders of both the Labour and Conservative parties are pro LGBT and pro Israel bombing Palestinians. Chie

I'm on record as an atheist, in the modern world all religion is simply idiotic.

Still waiting for you to respond to any of many requests made to back up your claims; very happy to give chapter and verse when you make good on the lies you have written.

Your last 'point' - or attempt at one - is not in any way counter to my post.

Foolish Israel has completely lost the plot on this, they have gone way too far now. If they are goading other regional powers to join in some kind of holy war against them with the aim or trying to draw the US and Britain into the conflict they are bang on course. This has all the potential to turn very nasty very quickly. Need a ceasefire fast and cool grown up heads talking before it's too late.

I'm a real idiot then. Religion is about faith and belief it's a choice. So much of modern science is exactly the same for the majority of people. Apparently it's 381.93 million kilometers to Mars I've never been but I chose to believe it.
