Thistles and Transfer/Thistlex

There may have been other threads on this a while ago, if so soz. We have a grass field which I was gonna reseed late summer but missed the opportunity so it's now pencilled in for next year. We have the usual selection of thistles, docks and nettles growing in clumps. I was just wanting to try and nail some/all of these before the weather turns too cold and wet so that we can have a good reseed next year (grass/clover reseed).

It's a small field so expensive sprays aren't a problem. We have a bit of Transfer left over which I thought we could use (is it allowed now or has it been removed from allowable sprays?). Maybe not enough for full rate though so could I boost it with some Thistlex/ Doxstar, or would they be antagonistic? Cheers in advance.

I used Kyleo (instead of straight glyphosate) on a similar field this year, and it seems to have done a cracking job. Planning on repeating on other fields next year, with thistles & nettles to clear up.

I'd be concerned that any Thistlex type product wouldn't translocate fully at this time of year, meaning you'd end up doing it again anyway.

I wasn't familiar with Kyleo, seems like a good idea for next year. I still might be inclined to have a go this year as I had a reseed three years ago which had all sorts of cr@p germinating. We sprayed with Doxstar Pro in mid Oct which did a good job, but the thistles seemed to think it was fert. So we sprayed a fortnight later with Transfer. Three years later there are still no thistles in the field. I was surprised it worked as late to start with in the first place.

So my question is still valid, can I mix Transfer and say Doxstar together in the same tank or do I have to spray twice if the urge takes me?

If you want to get something on then I wouldn’t mix what you’re suggesting. The doxstar is likely to stuff it enough to prevent the mcpa from working.

Wouldn’t bother doing it this year now tbh,

A word of warning. If you’re used to generic glyphosate prices, make sure you’re sitting down when you get the Kyleo price.....

Doxstar Pro (Triclopyr & fluroxypyr ) would have little effect on thistles, but should be effective on actively growing docks & nettles. Clorpyralid is the daddy on thistles IME, among the selectives.
