I do hope you guys aren't spot spraying with Thistlex. That would never do, it's not on the label.:censored:

Not thistles no.

we got some strong thistles and thinking of topping them, let the re grow and then spray????thought easier to kill and younger thistle

Got a jungle of them in one field, didn’t get chance to do them in spring so will top now and do them late summer autumn when there at rosette stage again

I did just that on a field of nettles & creeping thistle about 3 weeks ago. Nettles had gone to flowering and thistles were barely ready, so used topper to even them up. Nettles & thistles both looking just about right for their foliage feed later this week.(y) A shame about the thick mat of clover present, but weeds have gone too far now.:(

If there is a lot of clover you probably wont remove it all. Ive had the task of removing it from fields before. Took me two or three years in some cases.

I hope you’re right, but Thistlex is pretty good for wiping it out IME. Assuming it is cleared, i’ll Likely spray off and reseed in the Spring, as the (5 yr old) ley is starting to get a few weed grasses creeping in anyway.

Better to save your money then, or spray off now and whack a forage crop in?

I’d rather have 2 goes at the creeping thistles and glyphosate doesn’t control established nettles more than spraying pee on them.
Thistlex now, followed by straight Glyphosate in the Spring, is no dearer than Kyleo once.

it might well go through a forage crop (as it did last time), but I sure as hell won’t be ‘turning it over’ to bring up more seed. I made the mistake of being persuaded to plough before a reseed last year, the resultant field of IRG is so thick with weeds it’s an embarrassment. It’ll be coming out again next year to DD swedes, possibly with a tidy up this Autumn, ahead of glyphosate in the Spring.
