Suicide is something that I’m sure will have affected everyone on this forum in one way or another, I have lost friends and colleagues in agriculture to this issue so it’s something I’m well aware of.
I’ve been asked by a friend (Nuffield scholar Aarun Naik) if I would post this to not only help Naomi with her study but to also potential help someone in the farming community. So if this is something you’ve been touched by and feel you could help with please read below and contact Naomi.

Thoughts on suicide in farming
It is normal to feel overwhelmed and stressed if you’re going through a tough time. Sometimes it can feel like things will never get better. Because of this many people feel suicidal at some point in their lives. Those in the agricultural sector have twice the suicide rate than the national average.
My name is Naomi Hilton, I am completing a study on suicidal thoughts among farmers for my MSc in Psychology for Coventry University. I wish to better understand people who have these thoughts and feelings, and what might be done to support them. So I'm wondering if anyone here would be happy to volunteer a short amount of their time to speak with me about their experiences of such thoughts. All information would be completely anonymised.
I'm looking for people who have not had suicidal thoughts for the last 18 months or have any other mental health issues under good management . Participants would be provided with information about further support and help should they need it. If you are interested please contact me directly at [email protected]
