Weaving sabre tine,

KrM Sola Drill SM-P

there the ones I’m aware of That will go in direct but also on previously stirred ground. What other options are out there that are similar in layout etc?

thanks

If you don't do anything in a hurry, you might find a suitable cultivator to bolt the legs onto. 80mm or.100mm box is what they fit.
I’m in no rush and waiting to see what (if any) grant options come out on new machines but also keeping an open mind. I can see with how SFI and everything else is been targeted and developed that we need a drill that’s much more versatile than our current combi unit and want to explore the options available in the 6m size That can be pulled with a moderate sized tractor In direct, and cultivated ground. Only interested in tine type drills as I’m not a fan of disc drills on our ground In any situation.

I think you will need a pretty big tractor to pull
6m drill direct, especially if you are thinking a monted one. I have made coltivator frams in the past it normally work's out cheaper to preaches one but then it's allways a compromise between what you have and what you won't

100hp to pull 4 metres here with not too much trouble.

KRM have said my 165hp tractor on big tyres 650/42s should be fine.

end of day if needs be there’s 240hp in the shed. But would rather not commit to only that tractor if possible.

Just realised Dale do a mounted tine drill as well

so that’s KRM, Weaving, Dale.

any others?

Edit- triton is out as looking at there website I’m committed to putting the 240hp tractor on its knees trying to pull one1

not sure any of these will direct drill into any amount of trash??
Does a Claydon or Sprinter drill into loose trash?
Define “any amount of trash”

Weaving sabre tine here, drilled in to thick chopped straw, 50% grazed CC 8” tall with longer tillage radish stalks everywhere and 8/10” tall OSR volunteers. I’d say I even surprised myself by succeeding to drill in to the trash that I have done. The important lesson I’ve learnt (the hard way) is that the plants need to still be anchored by a living root so don’t spray off too far in advance or go pre em with roundup

Kverneland had a new time on show at groundswell.
Think it was called the Spanish tine.
Looked useful, similar to the sabre tine.

May be worth asking.

Would a Weaving or KRM overseed temporary pasture with legume mixes or would they drag too much
Simtech is what you want for that, or a disc drill. We were very impressed with how little disturbance there was from the simtech T slot tine going into grassland (though barely any of the kale grew, it was our own fault for not spraying the grass off beforehand, and not putting any fertiliser. But it was an experiment..). I'd imagine a weaving would stir up grassland quite a bit, and a claydon/mzuri type job definitely would.

Amazone primera is the tool for you.
Will go into anything from a ploughed seedbed to cover crop. I pull 6m with 150hp here on some very steep land, can bash out 100ac in a day quite easily. In grassland it might leave the surface a bit clumpy but it'll work.
A bit rare on the second hand market but there are usually some on Agriaffaires.

Edit: this one looks good for the money. It even has fert! https://www.agriaffaires.co.uk/used/no-till-seed-drill/44058869/amazone-primera-6000.html
