Tine drills.

I've gone direct and into cultivated with my Simtech, a very simple drill, which looks to have worked well in a difficult autumn.
I run a simtech with a front crimper roller which seems to drill into most surfaces. The main problem i have with it is the stone, which it fires like bullets.I bought it 6 years ago before i bought the farm we are on now which has some quite stoney areas.I haven't broken a tine yet but i get through a few u bolts and seed pipes.

We are hard on seed pipes, talking of which, had anyone got an alternative source for them
I have a bloody great roll of the stuff for my KRM, but it's marginally small for the Simtech.
I haven't broken a U bolt yet, but I do have to tighten them regularly.

This is Kuhn's version of the Sabre Tine,. the same as Weaving but with a fixed seed tube.

Sales Plug Alert! - Our replaceable tip tine also fits the Megant.

Anyone tried the new Horsch Sprinter SL?
Fell in love with it, got quotes, was going to swap my sprinter in for one and with fetf part with little if any cash…then saw the YouTube videos of it and decided it was a bit ‘wibbly wobbly’ for a year like this where it’s rock hard. After some further research I also noticed if you multiply up the break back force of each coulter, there’s not enough weight in the machine for it to be possible so in effect the legs will hold the drill out rather than the drill holding the legs in. ‘Claimed’ downforce is also quite a bit less than a normal sprinter. Such a shame.

I'm sure I saw somewhere it had a weight transfer system under the tractor linkage?

It does look an awesome drill.

I asked for 1 to be made with 200mm spacing, that’s a no then 😂😂

I asked the rep (who was actually from Horsch it turns out) about my query and he didn’t mention such a system…however that would certainly help

Just before you fallout of love with it just talk to the dale family as they have most experience of this style of tine drill as it isn’t all about weight like a disc drill yes you need some but the tine has some natural lead which pulls it in. The trip pressure is more about holding it in and releasing round stones. And remember the points are slimmer than on a conventional sprinter so take less holding in pressure. Hope some of that makes sense and no I don’t sell them but they look a very smart machine.

What have you decided on now? Back to the sabre?
That’s still in the lead at the mo, but not getting on very well getting it here on demo. Can’t wait much longer, flowers need to go in and that’s one of the jobs i wanted it for 🙄
Would prefer the Horsch front tank 😬

I got quotes too and tempted swap both the 4m Avatar and 3m Sprinter.

The weight transfer system is on the Avatar SL I think. On my undulating fields I guess a hydraulic top link in float would be necessary, so the tines must seek into the ground.

A demo would be ideal.
