Anybody else having a delayed start to tupping this year?, not one has been tupped yet [emoji22]

We haven't started tupping yet and we have pulled ours forward two weeks this year. When do you normally start?

I put tups in on sept 9th - last year all were marked within 17 days. this year there is approx a third left. Put it down to the ewes not being in such good condition after the drought we had

Rams been in 17 days and about 65% covered but rams have really been at it last 72 hours.

I don’t use a teaser.

No ewe lambs gone in yet.

We usually put tup in about now, he’s been in over a week now. Usually starts tupping in the first few days of being in. No we don’t use a teaser.

I'd be worried they were already in lamb Is he raddled?

The ewes likely weren’t cycling. A teaser would have got them working but, in his absence, the entire rams would have done the same job, hence delayed activity, before a very busy period.

my teaser has been in a week and actually saw him at work today, must be the best job in the world as he will be going in with another batch next week, weirdly they dont lose condition like the entire boys, guess they don't work as hard and that final jump must take its toll after a while

Put my teasers in today and they immediately got to work, but I am lambing a month later (outside) this spring.

He seems interested and is following a few around quite closely but they just don’t stand when he tries to tup them? :/

Last year it took my tup 20 days to get going he teased them then tupped them all in a week. I was getting worried then green bums started to appear. This year they have been a bit earlier, tups have been in 12 days and tupped 10 out of 18. Only small numbers but the same principle I guess. Space is tight at lambing as we are calving too so hopefully a more spread out will reduce the pressure a little.

The ewes aren't cycling yet, so not ready to stand for him. They will be fine in a while, probably a fortnight after he went in, as he will have had the same effect as adding a teaser.

No marked ewes until third day with our Suffolk. (That was yesterday so will be seeing if he’s been busy since!) Our Charollais tupped 4 first day.

We're taking our tups out next week. Teaser was in for fortnight. Appears most have been done.

When reading all the previous posts I’m thinking is it not strange for sheep farmers not to be using teasers?

I’m not that worried by a tight lambing period.

I lamb outside and leave them alone at night so a steady lambing rate suits me just fine.

(Just hope we get better weather this Feb/Mar!!)

Also I like a spread of lambs coming fit as it suits my boxed sales as well.

Granted I’m only lambing about 180 ewes but I’m selling well over 50% of lambs direct this year.
