Tips on using rear discharge spreader

I’m looking to buy a rear discharge spread approx 10 tonne size . Currently use a dual spreader , most fields have steep bits . Where does the danger lie with rear discharges ? Going up down or across ?

You just cannot go where you can with a dual spreader

people that say you can haven’t got steep banks

a west will go just about anywhere

a shelbourne wont go where a west will it’s higher and fetches the muck to the middle

a rear discharge has a lot of weight over the back and then it takes the weight back too off the tractor

I’ve had contractors spread ground here with them in past with no issues , throughput a rear discharge should suit us better but having never personally used one I’m a bit wary

If contractors have got round your ok

we had contractors come with rear discharge get stuck uphill get pushed all over the place sideways and generally come back out of a field with full underpants Some would say the fields aren’t spreadable but the west copes no bother

We use to run a 10 tonner on a 4 cylinder it was fine as long as the spreader has good tyres and you just make the brakes bite when you turn on sloping fields,we also added wheel weights to the tractor made quite a difference!

Gear is to big for frost here now just spread it all in july when its really dry now , given up on winter spreading .
Same here. Used to rotor spread scrapings all winter, trying not to make a mess. Got rid of that. Now pile it all winter. 2 days hire of a rear discharge, and that's my years muck gone on hay ground and stubbles.
12 tonner on a 4 cylinder. No steep ground mind..
