what a day!

- abbatoir
- back home, feed everyone
- Ag store for new digger pulley belt, too short, tried to make do with a bit of paracord, didn't work.
- back to Ag store for longer digger pulley belt
- get flatbed trailer dragged out of field, emptied all the crap from it
- saw Micropig customer to show her the piglets she's bought and answer questions
- feed mill for 1.5 ton of food, paid all overdue bills :whistle:
- back home quickly use digger to dump bulk bags on yard
- off to timber yard for ark building supplies and workshop roof timbers
- back home to see more micropig customers
- feed everyone again
- store bulk bags away in the container
- bleurghhhhhhh.....

Pulled triplets this evening, just in time for take to take charge tomorrow while I go to Kent for work for the rest of the week.

Scanning with the vet after this morning's milking-nothing eventful today-few in calf, couple cystic.
Sold a calf off-farm :) (wish he'd taken a few more :cautious:)

This pretty man appeared today

To join the 4 yesterday-two of each. This boy is a suckler project to replace Freddy, who was sold last week

Spring must be coming. This turned up in the pit tonight.

Rewilded him :)

Weighed Fri bulls, averaging 150kg now, so should be ready to leave end of May
Top 10 averaged 180.6kg
Watered pumpkins in the barn, flowers just appearing as they didn't go in til Christmas, when the pigs went away to be bacon
Drafted out top of lambs and realised they're heavier than my eyecrometer gave them credit, will probably send some away. Putting on 400g per day and calves about 900g.
Lunchtime!

If that is horse S--- in shavings, it's not worth spreading, unless they're paying for that too. Been there done that and got the badges.
On the other hand I got 30 odd ton of this stuff to try today, theoretically dynamite in comparison. Ex layers cages

No shavings, they run one of those poo picker vacuum cleaners round the field, with horses that are out all year round (with plenty of shelters), so it's just horse nuggets!
I've had shavings before, and so long as they're well composted in the heap, they're fine.

I used to clear chicken muck from an 80,000 bird cage rearing unit near me, day old to point of lay, and you're right, that is dynamite!
The biggest earner though, used to be picking up all the dropped birds from in the muck pit under the cages, and flogging them as point of lay, or keeping them to sell the eggs. The manager insisted there would only be a few hens in there, not worth collecting up, and the foxes would clear them up once the pit doors were opened. I never told him I'd sometimes get 150+!(y)
They packed up several years ago now.:(

I'm a 60 miles down the road when he phones to tell me all is OK and she is looking after all three. It's great to know but I'm not sure what I could do if it wasn't ok! (I didn't have the heart to tell him I checked at 0430 before I left)

Weaned these today.
Second from the right, her mother's next calf will be her last. Second from the left is a K. Eravelle calf.

More room now in the creep for the littlies. Calf on left is intended to be next bull.

Bottom right, the Fun Boy 2, top right, Posie and the current bull's mother awaiting an AI opportunity. They can go out but Posie (17) doesn't 'do' weather. (Note to self: continue development of bespoke watering system.)

The two bottom right are purebred Bazadaise steers, the cows behind are also Bazadaise.
www.bazadaise.org.uk
The shorthorn coloured ones are Bazadaise or Limousin/Whitebred Shorthorn crosses and the orangey ones are half or three-quarter Bazadaise.

The annual Bazadaise Society sale is at Melton Mowbray on the 4th April (a Tuesday) and entries, so far, are 8 in-calf heifers, 2 maiden heifers, cow with calf at foot, in-calf cow and two young bulls. There will be photos of these on the website soon.

Water board have road closed to install mains water for someone. Posh bugger!View attachment 475096
So away we go with tree lopping while road's shut.

It would be fine without the cyclists that keep ignoring the road closed signs and creeping up on me. I'll get one yet. :)
Why do some cyclists think road closed signs don't apply to them?
