Spraying off a few creeping thistles in the stubble.

Ploughing out a ley which was so badly poached last year that it needed a reset, I reckon field last ploughed over 20 years ago.

Long slow job but nearly at the end.

My first field of silage was great, after that all the fields of hay, wheat and barley were well below average and some, like some of the hay, have cost me money to dispose of they were so great.

I am trying to forget it, at least I have the pigs..... hang on, they are rubbish too.

Similar here. Spring beans around 2t/acre. The Cinderella crop that has done well this year. This dry sunny spell has been a blessing for harvesting them. Cereals a bit below average with low bushel weights and protein, and some ergot. Wrong type of weather for them in spring and early summer.

What's caused you to have such a poor harvest?

Ours hasn't been anything to write home about either. We are 90% spring barley and wet/cold/dry spring meant roots never got going. Winter crops performed well.

Muck spreaders eventually turned up this morningso I got a field to start with. Twice over with an old set of discs has given quite a decent seedbed in the bean stubble. Straight in tomorrow with the tine drill and leave the combination in the barn. This may be a short drilling session this year!

Must have! I was thinking it looked a professional job! @Robert K always does things properly…..enough to make the rest of us envious/admire!

P.S curves provide a greater surface area for drainage!

Finally cut the last 40ac of Soissons that we started cutting six weeks earlier. Omg. The ruts. Planted nothing on that block for a year. Stuff planted elsewhere died. Every time I think what a pain the harvest is, I think back to that summer.

what are you using on the thistles Pan mixer? I have sprayed my stubbles with roundup which doen't seem to have had much effect.
