£264 for that bit of pipe and it’s lasted less than 18 months

Giant Cell Arteritis. Similar and linked to PMR Polymyalgia. One can lead to the other, and you can have both. Auto immune condition. Body suddenly starts attacking itself, immune system thinks you are ill and kicks into overdrive; so then you really are ill. PMR affects joint areas, particularly shoulders, also wrists. GCA causes swelling in arteries in the head, it can quickly block blood supply to the eyes if not caught in time, hence blindness very quickly. Onset symptoms are, jaws very stiff and wont open properly (I though Id got tetanus), itchy scalp, very stiff neck, feverish sweats. No one really knows what kicks these conditions off, stress seems to be a common factor, ( so maybe farming is a cause!!). Steroids mask the symptoms and give relief, but dont take away the condition. Also a problem as they work by supressing the immune system to stop you attacking yourself, but that means vulnerability to real diseases; like Covid. Because immune system is always in overdrive you always feel knackered like you are dealing with flu, every single day. GCA is pretty rare (1 in 10,000); PMR is more common than you might think, some of those aches and pains in joints are not always just old age etc. No real cure, sometimes both PMR and GCA just go away eventually, sometimes it takes years, sometimes never. You juggle the level of steroids to keep stable but not too much so that you suffer the side effects of the drugs.whats GCA and how does it make you blind? sounds scary
