Drilling nightmare, laid W Barley straw
So out with the discs, 3 passes on the bad spots and it drilled
Managed to get it rolled ..........just
Anyone else detest rolling with a passion ?
Auto steer is a step closer after the nightmare drilling and then getting the rolls out. [emoji848]
Next it will be spraying with no tramlines [emoji30]

Argh Andy that looks a right ballache, trash and residue management is such an important part of any direct drilling, often just for operator sanity let alone the actual growing crop. I know how you feel having had similar once or twice with my drill in the past, last year we had a couple of patches of 18 inch stubble, rather than the normal 6 inch, the drill just wouldn't go through which infuriated me massively and made me wonder wtf I was doing! If you can in the future I would cut a bit lower. My 2p, I know autosteer is expensive and can seem like a luxury but once you've got it you will wish you had gone and bought it 5 years ago it really is brilliant (not that it would sort out straw dragging issues). If you can afford it I would go for it, you only live once! Rolling with autosteer in good conditions is a great job

New addition to the workforce arrived this morning.

Tidy clean machine. Have a 655 Special here that I bought three years ago when renovating the house. Not a week passes when it’s not used for something!! All the trades that came here loved it as I could lift anything onto scaffold or swing things in or out of the way and levelling and landscaping was easy! A 5 tonner and dumper would be handier but wont get anything for £5k.

I would of liked a 4wd but nothing around at the moment that was within my price range, so I will see how much it does here. Will certainly be better than a spade or waiting for someone to turn up.
