More hedge planting, got through 2 spades so far on this job, Very nice ground on this job lucky enough to be able to travel (that being said there has been a couple of sticky moments)
We used an old bar with a point on the end. When. We did half with a a spade and half with the bar the bar ones seemed to take a lot better. Found it a bit quicker going too. A nice job when the weather's ok and satisfying when you see them come in the spring

Thanks, I will pass it on. He is a single guy in his mid twenties, worked in Mid Canterbury, desperate to get his own farm, most of us have been there!

Know what you mean about moving to rural areas, we moved to Kurow when the kids were in primary school. The people welcomed us with open arms, a wonderful part of our journey in NZ.

Everyone needs to get out of their comfort zone every once in a while!

Hope your move is successful, bit different to the Catlins?
I am struck that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

It's still just a grazing plan, some cattle, a mountain of grass and a man on a bike - just slower.

Had to graze the block down there 3 times a year, this is more like Africa !

That's interesting, never tried. We'd still have to use a spade for a lot of them as it's mixed hedge and the roots can be quite a wide spread. Could well work on a job like this one though where its nice light ground, but on the clay around home I think I'd struggle.

planting for my own satisfaction I pushed a broad spade in and planted a thorn at each end. Much faster.

I’ve had a few messages asking about my leg and how it’s going!
No work for me unfortunately just yet, I’ve been weight bearing for 3 weeks now and my progress is huge, i managed to get down to 1 crutch in 10 days and no crutches in 2 weeks
I’ve been walking at least 10,000 steps a day now, swimming every 2-3 days and I do physio work in the pool and at home, I’m on a very high protein diet, loads of eggs and meat, huge pot of Greek yogurt before bed
The ache of muscle growth gets painful and I still get deep aches in my bones and knee but the more uncomfortable I am on an evening the stronger I am the following day
We bought a cheap at home sauna and I have an ice bath in the wheely bin, this helps with recovery even more, I can have a big day and not ache at all the following day
I have nowt else better to do than recover so I’m doing my best, my knee movement improves by 1mm every day as the muscles get bigger, I’m still a while off a days fencing but I keep chipping away daily
I see a sports physio and the help you get is worth every penny, the NHS have been great but they only get you back to work, sports physio get you fitter quicker, any muscle or joint problems I wouldn’t bother with a doctor first just go straight to sports physio
I managed my first proper bike ride today as I’ve only just got enough knee movement so my seat is as high as possible, this is my only bike I can ride!

Here’s a reminder to everyone of the last X-ray.

I was at my ex rugby player chiropractor a couple of weeks ago and somehow we got onto the subject of broken legs. I mentioned your situation and he was saying that the muscle loss in legs from injuries like yours can be as much as 75% in 6 weeks. It sounds as if you’re doing all the right things. 👍

Yes muscle starts to atrophy after 48 hours of no use, luckily I could start to move my leg after 4 weeks but I would think muscle loss will of easily been 75% you could see my femur bone. It’s slowly coming back now but I have a long way to go
