Help from @exmoor dave needed.

Managed to catch a few Mackerel and even 2 bass last night. One on feathers and another with a spinner type thing. Very nice supper.

But there were some huge mullet floating around the boat last night in a quiet river. Tried all sorts to try and tempt one onto a hook to no avail. Daughter desperate to catch one.

Any tips?

Doubt we will eat it as heard they are not great when caught in river environments.

Bread, chuck loads round as ground bait, use fine line and fine shape hook- freshwater gear basically.

One of the genuinely difficult fish to catch! Good fighters!

Never managed to catch one yet.......so don't know how good my advice is.

Only ever caught one! brilliant fight, and did on fresh water gear and floated bread, last cast of the evening just before too dark to see, I think I always struck to early before and lost them on the strike.

Total fail.

Won't have time to try again as off boat today. Clean down, re fuel, top of holding tanks and lug a tonne of stuff to car.

Off this afternoon to a dear friend's cremation in Blyth, Northumberland - is there a better road than the A697 to switch off, reminisce and take in the countryside? (saw at least a dozen combines out from Dalkeith to Howtel)
More dead flies than rain on my windscreen for the 5 hrs driving there and back.

Yes it was. We coped it from the water table rather than the river. You could sit indoors and hear the springs bubbling under the house.
