I watch it regularly and think it’s great, but I thought he was being a bit soft saying he’s having a day off tomorrow.

We all have days that are “steadier” now & again.

But a day off ?
Am I being harsh ?

Perhaps it’s tiring knowing you have to perform in front of a camera regularly ?

Or maybe he’s too honest, perhaps plenty of us would’ve had the day off & just not mentioned it ?

It depends on how well you are running your business, if you aren't in a position to take a day off when you want one I'd say that there is a problem.

YouTube is a very successful diversification for him, and I guess it was father Andrew that developed the milk retailing and farm shop enterprise, which was money much better spent than on fancy farm buildings.

Im having the day off, infact the weekend, going to dublin with the boys. So what, i work hard enough, lifes for living, theres plenty heros in the graveyard.

I’m not criticising him (because I think he’s great for farming PR)
more highlighting the fact that some farmers are almost embarrassed about having a day off !
It seems to be a hero thing.

A bit like Maggie Thatcher used to talk about surviving on next to no sleep as though it was a sign of power and strength, even though a lack of sleep is connected with various cancers, altzheimers and more accidents than alcohol.

Tom has a wife and a newborn in the house, maybe he likes spending time with them, or maybe he has to be home for some reason that he isn't prepared to declare to the world.

Why in Ag do we celebrate working ourselves to the bone?
it’s not good for our health, it does nothing to encourage people to join the farming community and is downright selfish towards families and loved ones around us.

I’ve just had my 1st week off farm for 5 years, and it has been forced due to illness, physical and mental exhaustion. I definitely won’t be leaving it for another 5 years before I take a week off.

We pride ourselves in working very hard for very little , i sometimes think we have it the wrong way around .
It definitely is the wrong way around, one of my neighbours was talking about his cousin who brags that he works a minimum of 12 hours a day pretty much 7 days a week.
I asked my neighbour why someone would brag about how long it takes to achieve a living.

I know a guy who comes out at half 7, works all day, has his tea at 7pm and then goes to start feeding and bedding about 500 cattle after that, gets in at 11pm, wife and kids are in bed and that's him until 7:30 am when it starts all over again.
He's just a slave and he's no better off than an African who walks 5 miles a day to get water from a well.
