Top soil

Sorry another rubbish thread from me. Neighbour wants a couple 3/4 ton trailer loads of top soil we have in a heap (we will use it eventually). Wondering what the value of top soil is per ton?? Anyone know ?

Tricky if he’s good a bottle of whiskey if not that’s 8T less to cover a knowe so would think hard about letting it go. Amazing what folk ask farmers for them report you for nonesense!!

There’s a bit of give and take with my neighbours. But I think we all like to keep a track of what each of us has had/borrowed just to keep things fair!

I'd think a tonne for tonne swap would be a fair deal.

Bulk "As dug" is not worth a lot. So go for the home made cake swop
To get good money for top soil it needs to be screened & put in 1 tonne bags

In my experience I wouldn't pay a penny for screened topsoil, yet as-dug is much better stuff.

Screened soil round here often comes out of the waste stream rather than the ground.

£10-20 pt ,depends on quality,local quarry has few 1000 tn of (back fill soil),utilities lads use it for trench fill ,Ive used it to build up ground for turfing

Seems a legit and perfectly understandable arrangement.

The answer is screened and good dry topsoil is about £95 for a dumpy bag.

So the consensus is if we get on free if not 80£. The cake alone is probably worth about 1000£ a ton and Iv ate about half a ton this year

In all honesty it was dug from the worst wet field on the farm. It’s topsoil we took off that we built the parlour on. a horrible wet paddock. Had to dig 20 foot down! Built back up with 30000 ton of rock from the quarry we luckily have on the farm

I think the world would be a much better place if more deals where done with cake?.

Probably be a lot more type 2 diabetes though ?
