Track refurbishment

Hi all,
I’m quoting for a track refurb. It goes a round a converted farm barn. It’s currently a mix of dirt and hard core with a tiny amount of shingle. It’s sunken and full of pot holes. I plan to raise the height to keep the water off. What’s best to use a. Base layer. I plan to use a 5 ton 360 to pul it back in shape

Type 1. For top dressing.
5 tonner is ok but I’d suggest a heavy whacker or better still a vibrating roller to compact the top dressing.
Try to endure the middle is higher than the sides, Roman road style as this will shed surface water as quickly as possible.

40mm to dust? You need fines so it ties together, if you just use single size it won’t compact and will move
Not ime. What is already there percolates in. I used to use pebbles from a sandpit and now use quarried granite because trunk road improvements made the quarry more accessible. Only when the brook breaks its bounds do I get movement. Keeping the brook out would mean major civil engineering which is not realistic.

Plenty or terram, 6-8 inches of 70-40 limestone or the local equivalent then a thin layer of type one on top. You will still get pot holes no matter what you use on top. Tarmac it longterm would be the best option unless it gets loads of heavy traffic then concrete with structural fibres.
