I use Total Tractagri HDZ in everything, JCB, scraper tractor, ad blue John Deere. John Deere dealer don’t have an issue with it, they use my oil when they service the tractor.

Total Dynatrans MPV goes in all the back ends.

Likewise here. Where do you buy yours from? Mine is from APM.

Can anyone tell me an equivalent to John deere hyguard.need to drop the oil in both of my tractors rear ends before harvest.local dealer wants well north of £500 for a barrel

What transmissions do you have? If you're using Autopower you'll need to get the dealer out to recalibrate the transmission for the different oil. I did a quick cost/benefit on changing to a cheaper oil but with 2 out of 3 tractors with Autopower & contract hired i.e. with Powerguard warranty, it worked out cheaper to just keep being bent over to pay the extra for the JD paint on the barrel. What I'd really like to find out is where JD buy it from so I can just avoid the green & yellow mark up on it. Fuchs?

Both my tractors are power quad transmissions.john Deere have it made for them and then add 50plus% I’m sure.its easy to get oils mixed to your spec.got a friend who specialises in Italian motorbikes and he looked into getting same spec oil mixed for himself but all customers he asked wanted a branded oil.bit cheaper on bikes only holding a litre or two

I would like to see that in black and white, sounds like a joke.

I tried a non genuine oil & the 2 Autopower tractors I had at the time started playing up after I'd topped up following a couple of leaks. Swapping to a new oil was described as ok by the JD dealer outside warranty but I was advised to change the whole oil, stick to that new one & recalibrate the transmission.

Put a low SAPS ACEA E6 oil in them all. It is backward compatible. E9 is not as suitable for very long drain intervals as E6, however counterintuitive that may sound.

Fuchs Titan Cargo LA E6 is selling for £384 plus either 12 cartridges of grease or 25 litres TFR free of charge with every 205 litre barrel from ACT according to their latest catalogue on line. This also meets mb228.51 which is pretty much the best long drain super heavy duty emissionised oil spec you can get today. It is one of the elite oils that are classed as Ultra High Performance Diesel oil or UHPD

What's long drain ?

You'd have to know what was in it though, would JD or the company blending it for them tell you?
For what you have, the condition they're in and the hours they do I'd just stick to what ever it says in the manual. It might be a few quid dearer, but its nothing compared to what you'll pay if you start rebuilding engines and transmissions.

What's long drain ?
Drain intervals that are longer than short ones. In tractors that would generally be anything longer than 400 hours in my opinion, possibly a lot longer if manufacturer's filtration was up to it, using SHPD oil. In heavy goods vehicles anything up to 100,000 miles using UHPD oil.

That's my assumption , my fastrac is 1000 hrs oil change , ridiculous imo twice a year is what it gets .

1000 hours would require UHPD oil to mb228.5 standard or 228.53 if Stage4 with adblue and particulate filters etc. A lesser oil is either likely to sludge or lose viscosity long before 1000 hours unless the sump capacity was above average and bypass filtration was employed. However, as long as filtration was adequate, mb228.5 and ACEA E6 synthetic oil is likely to remain serviceable for considerably longer than 1000 hours. If the manufacturer says 1000 hours/one year, whichever comes first, they have probably built in a considerable safety margin when the correct oil quality is used.

It's not compulsory to use the full drain interval and there is usually an option to use a cheaper lesser quality oil and change twice as often but still annually, whichever comes first, in all probability.

Shell make the JD product.
