more likely to have a fire if you ask me, the radio may well be earthed through the arialand if something is drawing a lot of power the only earth is the radio, so more likely to go up in smoke

Yes but @Hesston4860s has it fused, so it cant short with the isolator off.

very true and yes could well be ok, but i have seen wires burn, and they had fuses on them,

5 amp fuse across the isolator fitted to the negative lead.
if there is a fault with the machine, then the fuse will blow. Otherwise it is plenty to keep the radio memory

We had the horrible experience of one of our tractors decided to self ignite in the middle of the night. Tractor and about 40 bales of haylage are gone but luckily it was parked near by the sheds but not in one.
Is it possible to put isolators on them to limit the fire risk as we don't have a proper machinery shed but would always prefer to keep them in.

It's not even a 5 amp tbh, I can't remember exactly the size but 1 amp or less. It's only purpose in life is to keep the radios memory.

As long as you remember not to turn the ignition on which with the isolator off it will work perfectly happy!!!

But you could go to 5Amp or even 10Amp in safety.

The original poster hasn't a good radio, so no need for a fuse, keep it simple ..............
