Recon now tractors are getting on for £1000 per horsepower the unreliability of a lot of tractors needs to be seriously addressed . Farmers spending £250 k + plus for prime tractors that is an obseen amount of money to spend on a tractor and then they still breakdown i know extended warranties are available for a price but come on for that sort of money you would expect more reliable products . If tractor manufactures made aeroplanes no one would fly . Now that is a thought and would help sort global warming .Fly in a john deere plane or a fendt or even a zetor plane ? No thanks i wouldn't trust any of them ill stay put thanks .

We need to wake up and smell the coffee the money ain't in the job for having millions of £ of kit that's not 100% reliable to grow crops . You know what i mean nothing is 100% but you here stories of major repairs running into tens of thousands on young equipment makes me wonder where its all going .

Hmm, never really heard of modern tractors breaking down that much ? 🤷‍♂️

not like the 70’s & 80’s with final drive & transmission failures being relatively common
The internet has given people a platform to publicise every single breakdown. So time off bad one gets heard loudest.

Not many people come on and post about how they didn’t have an issue this month

It seems to me there are many similarities and parts between agricultural prime movers and haulage prime movers. AFAIK the haulage industry doesn't suffer the same level of breakdowns nor would they put up with it.
Ad blue pumps and systems have played hell on lorries since they came around. A haulier I used to do a lot with would change every lorry every 3 years, all 16t insulated tippers, mainly on tarmac. The amount of ad blue problems and emissions related problems they were getting was horrendous. 7 lorries and always 1 on stop

I'm not saying that adblue systems are perfect and ultra reliable but on the other hand people buy the cheapest adblue they can find and often in bigger quantities to get the price down so it hangs around for ages. There's a lot of adblue issues could be easily avoided.

Said this to a few folk lately-
EVERYTHING PEAKED IN THE 2000S, CHANGE MY MIND.
We hand left hand reversers, at least 4 powershifts, cab and front suspension, air con. Engines that were still made with power in mind. Decent lift and hydrulic pump capacitys. Apart from autosteer we had everything we needed. Yes there were breakdowns. Everything had a fault here and there but nothing to the scale or the bills we have now. Tractors and machinery have become over complicated to justify the ever increasing price tag with only downsides for the owners.

I have to agree with Roy.

Years ago I remember especially during Potato lifting constant trips to the dealers. Starter motors, alternators, pull to stop cables. Tipping pipes. Not to mention a clutch in one or two.
Nothing much now. Service once a year instead of nearly once a month during the busy time.
As for adblue. In ten years of using it. Only problem was a leaking tank.
keep everything clean, don’t let it get close to empty.
Find the people that do have a lot of issues are the ones buying it from a car boot and filling it with their generic jug that they use for oil, diesel, water, roundup and Sunday gravy.
