Hummmm Wife's home town, have put a What's App in outshooting group, my guess is our Traveling Friends.

If you're going by the address quoted on the website (nr Halstead in Essex) then I suspect thats a genuine business. The scammers find a genuine limited company listed at Companies House that has a suitable name, but has no web presence. They then use all the info from the legit company (its company number, VAT number, registered address, maybe even the names of the company officers, to create a website that purports to be for that real business. But the contact details (phone numbers and email) will be going off to the scammer instead, located God knows where. The landline listed on the Tractor Plus website is a Manchester number for example. But the numbers could be re-routed to anywhere in the world. The website's IP address is Moscow, it again could be somewhere else. Everything is able to be hidden on the net.

People get greedy. They see something at a 'bargain' price, and the lure of a good deal blinds them to anything else. Or they live outside the UK, and machinery is not easily available where they live. Or are unaware of the real price of items and that the prices quoted are too good to be true. This is more and more prevalent as people from non-farming backgrounds end up owning properties in the countryside that come with land and they then need to buy kit to manage them.

There must be plenty of people who fall for these scams because they keep popping up, the scammers wouldn't bother if no-one took the bait.

I bought a tractor from Tractor Plus 2 weeks ago, I paid a 30% deposit upfront and the remaining balance when the tractor arrived, I just want to say it is exactly as described and in perfect working order, no faults, everything as they said.

There are some scams better, or should I say more convincing than others, some are so blindingly obvious it’s astounding that people still fall for them, but if one person in a thousand does it’s still a success.
