Trailed Amazone Catros

A couple of years ago I bought a mounted 5 metre Amazone Catros. I have been pleased with the result so far but I have been starting to think about upgrading to a trailed one. I use the Catros on stubble but also alot on ploughed land... we have alot of stones in our ground and it buries them quite good. But when I pick up big stones I have a hard time filling up the holes.

I have found a couple of second hand 7,5 metre Catros with crossboards, has anyone got any experience of them? I also wonder if the big rubberwheels in the back do a good job and if they are reliable?

Also wondering if anyone tried both original discs and the + discs and if there are a big difference? We have usually got very dry, hard land so it might be good with the more agressive + discs to get into the ground.

What do people think of 200 hp in front of a 7,5 metre, will it work? We have very flat ground and like I said before alot of stones so I will not travel over 12 km/h.

Like the idea of them. Have a demo set turning up heee to have a play with how do you find them in wet conditions? Have you ever tried going straight into a sprayed off grass padock? I'm un sure of hp / width requiems but im guessing 200hp would cope with 7 metre if going slow

had a 4 meter mounted here working down some wild flowers which were in an environmental scheme for 10 years , sprayed off and worked twice over with the catros , and rolled was enough for a seed bed for kale . had to watch when going over with the catros as it could bull dose in front of the rubber packer . think 7.5 meters might be too much for 200hp but you will know yourself already owning a 5 meter.

I have tried to go into a sprayed off paddock but with poor results. But our land is very hard with lots of stones and at that time of year it was very dry as well. So the results on my farm will for sure be alot worse than results at the average farm

I have found the Catros to work ok on moist ground. Cant really say I have been out when it has been really wet.

Had a 7.5 metre trailed ran this for four seasons. swapped it as not enough weight in it. Also the rear tyre packer was good but bearings had a tendency off going and the hub would be knackered in a split second and they were expensive

Ok, so what do you think of hp requirement? Are the packertyres solid or filled with air? In what way was it not heavy enough... not enough compaction? Or did you not get it down in the ground?

What did you change to?

Air in tyres. Basically it started hopping when ground is hard. Pulled with a 720 fendt on level ground easily. Swapped to a Horsch joker

That sounds promising when it comes to hp requirements! Did you ever use it on ploughed ground? Do you find the Joker a better machine?
