Trailed Vs mounted mower

What's the advantages/disadvantages of a mounted mower over a trailed, thinking of changing my trailed,
mounted are cheaper, lighter weight but have they the same workmate, does a mounted have issues on the corners or just different .looking at a krone

Spent many years with a trailed, which died, got a new mounted for cost reasons, kept it two seasons and traded it in for a used trailed, on our ground there the mounted just seem to eat bed skids, no such problem with the trailed, also found if you made a small steering adjustment with a mounted it would kick the mower to one side and you'd miss a bit, again no such problem with the trailed. Just my personal experience obviously, probably get told I'm a rubbish operator 🙄

We have a Krone trailed and in my opinion is loads better than a single mounted. The mounted ones are made lighter so they don’t break linkages so bad trailed is probably double the price but will last twice as long as they are better made and don’t bounce along on the skids. I don’t like any machines that put upwards forces on a tractor linkage they are only designed for downward pressure. Also a trailed you can have a smaller tractor or in my case I put a tractor with rowcrops on it

Got both trailed and mounted mowers. Various brands. Trailed win’s easy. Better for corners, in and out of rows faster and floats on uneven ground far better. The mounted is not great on uneven ground unless you drop a few gears no matter what the brand is. Men here race for the trailed every time.

Only real benefit here for having a mounted is to have it paired with a front mower.

I have a mounted 3.2 m, I hate most things about it, it's a fu#ker to hitch up, takes a wide area in the shed to put it, don't cope with heavy grass very well if gone down a bit, but I don't want to spend 15k plus on a trailed.

It will take up less space than a trailed, but I know what you mean about hitching on as we have 3.2m mounted and it’s pita to put on n off

I like a trailed personally. No bother using it with a front mounted mower either, especially if its a centre pull, swing over jobbie.
Mounted ok if there's one on each side as part of a set of triples, otherwise you can keep them.
But it does depend how much work you're doing, a cheap mounted doing a couple of hundred acres a year should last just fine.

I'll go against the grain here .

I had a string of trailed mowers and and went to a mounted and will never go back to a trailed.

Mine follows ground better you can adjust the pressure on the bed from the cab wherever your tractor goes the mower follows so none of the mower falling down the hill etc .

Corners are just different. But we do rake everything so have no issues with cutting square corners

My work rate is actually slightly higher with the mounted I'm sure it's down to having a smaller endrig due to less length so can get turned quicker and easier.
But maybe that's just me :scratchhead:
