Son is travelling to Australia in a fortnight to do some ag contracting work in Victoria area around fish creek.
Just wondering if any on here are able to offer any advice, tips, hints, requirements or things to take for the 3 months he's there.
Or if any members on here are familiar with the area any local knowledge would help of course.
Flights are booked and visa is in hand.
Thanks

Very nice part of the world if he's fond of hills. Not far to the coast from there. Some really nice beaches down that way. Guess he's working for a silage contractor down there?

Nice part of the country will be cold there at the moment,
He may have to get his phone unlocked so he can take an aussie sim card or just buy a cheap aussie phone and put a SIM card in. Check out what Aldi are offering as we have a good SIM from them that costs $25 a month (£13) with all texts and calls to most world destinations and 25G of data. They have different levels of Data at different costs. Easy to use and get extra data if needed.

What is the coverage like in less built up areas?
Asking because I am coming over early next year. Usually get a Telstra sim as it's the only one with good coverage away from towns, by that I mean a bit more rural rather than in the middle of nowhere.
I'd guess getting the sim the locals recommend once you are there is the best bet if you are staying in one area but an unlocked phone is a good call.

Most folk probably assume it is going to be hot but on one of our trips it was bloody freezing, we ended up in a charity shop buying sleeping bags.
I told everyone I had a vagrant following me. :ROFLMAO:

When you say cold, do you mean actually cold? Or like "only" 30 degrees?

Didn't think it actually got thatcold!

Do they get frost?
I was on a station north of Broken Hill back in 99, i wasn't prepared for the cold there, had quite a few frosts, down to about -3⁰c over night, i only had a few thin work shirts. Doing the bore run on a motorbike wasn't fun at all. Bought some thicker work shirts next time we went to town, only wore them a fwe times after that 🤦‍♂️

was not far from Fish Creek Area ,when we were travelling in august 2023, My daughter lives out on the great ocean road in Victoria. She said it will get cold but not cold like cold is in UK but I think she was wrong. I call it a blue cold it just goes straight through you blowing of the ocean.
The temperature will just be starting to warm up a little bit now but 18 +then it will go up into the 30 little bit more.

He will be about 2 hours from me. I don't know the area that well but l hope he is a good tractor driver used to slopes and odd shaped fields. He will also need a vehicle its a bit rural down there.
We got relations to live in Queenscliff we went and see them.
Then we ferry across to sorrento we came very close to passing your front door then.
