Treating the range area outside sheds

I was wondering what people do to the range outside free range sheds. We had an outbreak of erysipelas in the last flock and have found blackhead in a different shed this flock, both of which supposedly come from the soil.

Don't think blackhead is treatable, vaccinate against erysipelas? And don't run sheep on the range?

Had Erysipelas in this flock, started in one flock at 45 weeks and went through the whole site by 55 weeks. Tylan every three weeks and high mortality, don't wish to repeat it.

They were vaccinated but the vaccine company just shrugged their shoulders when asked why the vaccine had failed.

Going to powerharrow the range level to about 50 metres out from the sheds and then coat it with semblanc, hopefully it will do some good.

I've been told sheep might carry it, or rodents, or the fact there were pigs on the farm until a couple of years back.

Don't really want to slaughter all the sheep on an unproven guess though?

I was always told if you have sheep on the farm you need to vaccinate ( and hope it works) for Erysipelas?
I always thought sheep were major carriers?

I have moved onto an off the shelf erysipelas vaccine as the autogenous broke down at 50 weeks even though it was the same strain. Fingers crossed it will be better.
