Thinking of One of these but Someone said they can operate fairly slowly possibly due to the oil supply? I noticed tmk do a turbo version with an extra ram to help this? Had anyone had experience of either and a view on the speed of operation? Thanks

I Think the turbo ram is too give it a bit more cutting power, those type of shears work quit fast as they need to catch the branch before it falls out of the grab. The more powerfull Shears are slow operating, but once you get used to opening them just enough for the branch being cut, youll get through a lot of work.

I know this is an old thread, but anyone looking for a general shear for hedges/limbing/ murderous nasty bludgeoning through decades old scrubby foresty crap ripping out massive root balls etc, the intermercato tiger grip (mine's a 3 year old 250 e) has proved itself monstrously strong. it's quite heavy, but indestructible. possibly there are other ones that do a certain type of job better, but this one will do all of the jobs reasonably well, and if you break it, you're an absolute muppet and shouldn't be allowed anything with an engine :D. Mine's also mounted under a tilt hitch, works very well and it's quite surprising the weight of tree you can rotate up from horizontal.

what sort of cost?

mine was 4k 3 years ago. Approved hydraulics sold me it, google them, I think the site gives prices. Good to deal with too. the 250 e is the one I have, fine on an 8 tonner, prob a bit heavy for a 5 tonner. There are a few models though.

Very nice! Like the rotator too.

Did AH supply the rotator? Does it have a quick hitch built in?
No, the tilt hitch (it only goes 180 degrees rather than round and round) came fitted when I bought my new digger, it's permanently on the digger and picks up all buckets and other attachments just like any other quick hitch... made by Miller, and proving to be a real tough thing as well... would need to be it was 6.5k. You can buy that shear with a rotator fitted to it (I think they call it a 250 eR, although it's a lot dearer obviously.) Can't really tell you how tough that shear is, I'd a desperate horrible job came in I wish I'd turned down, and for a week solid i had the digger on its tip toes pulling and yanking and twisting at stuff that was totally unfair and way beyond the capacity of the outfit, without any damage at the end. It's also a compact shear compared to a lot of them, which is of value in awkward stuff. Not that I'm talking down other makes because it's the only one I've ever used, there are others with bigger cut diameters for the same weight of tool, but I can tell you for sure this one does more than it says on the tin. If you go in at 90 degrees to the tree and you're packing 200bar, it'll clean cut it's rated capacity of 10'' in any wood that i've come across... if you're looking at shears, take care to check the squeezing force as well as the advertised cutting thickness, I hear some of them have the depth of blade, but not the force to fill it in hard woods

How quickly will it let go of a tree Branch , it thing s get a bit tipy.
Machine is seldom level here ,which is why we went with the exact 1 shear. We Had a few if'y moments when we had a tiger grip on Demo.
Large stuff I’d say was fine but smaller would get caught/stuck.

Had a contractor in today to cut off a hedge that had got to about 15 to 20 foot, it took him about 4 hours to cut around 200 meters. the shear had 2 arms that grab about 2-3 foot of hedge then pulled it into a knife that sheared it off. He had a swivel on the shear that turned 360 degrees it was mounted on a 13 tn 360 machine well impressive so quick. He swung all the cuttings and laid them in a windrow so can be pushed up and disposed of.

Tiger grip never lets go of the bigger stuff unless you want it to, its long fence post sized bits that can slip out occasionally, especially if you're not closing the grab at full speed, kinda need the 100l/min to get her snapping shut quick
I had a couple of ash branches jump out before it grabbed them.
Very strong grab. It took a hell of a lot of abuse without issue.

That's what I like about it, you couldn't wreck it if you tried, and I do feel it's more versatile than some, for reloading, tearing things out of the ground, picking up a bucket to travel with it etc. Not perfect, but a very solid all rounder
