Got a job coming up where I need to wash 300 ton of 10-20mm gravel that is in a reed bed so thought I’d build a trommel wash plant
Managed to get a few ingredients together so made a start today

Got some 30” pipe then joined them with 100mm flat bar where the mesh screen will be clamped on

Got some 60x6mm flat rolled to make the internal flights

To end up with this the spiral will go the full length with a twin spiral at both ends to get the stone in and out quicker than the middle part which will only be a single scroll

This will be the tank that the trommel will sit on, got it from one of my demolition jobs was an old molasses tank from a animal feed plant, just need to cut it in half and weld a baffle in to make a weir so hopefully the solids will settle out and cleaner water will flow over the weir to be pumped back into the trommel to wash the stone(y) well that’s the theory:whistle:

I think I could spend a few interesting hours digging around in your yard (y)

There’s a company which will wash the gravel but want £15 per ton to clean the gravel costs £22 per ton to buy
So far it as cost me £400 to buy the flat bar and have it rolled the rest is scrap that I have got from jobs plus I’m going to hire it out to a company that have to clean and size ceramic balls that come from an aluminium smelting plant I made a vibrating screen for them a few years ago but want a better way to do it
