Truffles.

Growing cultivated truffles is not for those wanting a fast return, or indeed, a guaranteed return. But, truffles are indigenous in the UK (I've found them in 13 counties). Have a few ideas for recreational use of woodland if anyone wants to discuss. Total discretion.

This is something I have looked at doing, but have only spoken with a couple of bigger companies who do the whole job for you, but was unsure if I would be losing out by approaching it this way?

That sounds as though you are talking about growing cultivated truffles. Mainland Europe and elsewhere already have good results but Britain is hardly out of square one. I have also been watching closely the effect our strange weather patterns have been having on the indigenous truffles I harvest.
My initial post was to suggest an income from woodland that might already carry a few truffles rather than a commercial supply. Used to live in Hampshire, happy to help if I can.

Well, I know many sites in Dorset that have a generous amount of truffles. Oaks can host truffles, so that's another positive. Next, look at the soil and drainage. High Ph (chalk / limestone)and free drainage is necessary. If you do have a lot of truffles, yes, it could be financially very rewarding. Even a small amount could be useful. If you want to discuss, do give me a ring 01935 824316. I do not need location details to offer you the correct advice.
