Trump's Oil policy

I understand that Trump is going to open up a new Oil pipeline which will significantly boost USA Oil exports.

Whilst Trump will no longer issue waivers on Iranian oil imports.

Will this lead to European oil price hikes, will this harm Chinese manufacturing and will this lead to a further increase in the USA economy - stock market new highs.

The story here could be as much about the president riding roughshod over democratic institutions and procedures as it is energy policy. To me the worrying thing is that he is too much in thrall to the cowboy end of the energy industry rather than looking to explore all alternatives to releasing more fossil carbon into the atmosphere.

Which pipeline do you mean?

It will be the Keystone XL trans Canadian one that is due go across America. Trump has been trying to overrule the courts in disputes with native Americans whose trust land it has to go though.

"In an unprecedented action, President Trump has attempted to circumvent the law by issuing TransCanada yet another presidential permit for the Keystone XL pipeline.

This new permit is a blatant attempt to avoid any environmental analysis for the pipeline that United States law and courts have required. President Trump’s attempt to circumvent the judicial branch is extremely troubling because he has elevated the profits of a foreign corporation above the will of the American people and the laws of the United States

I was recently talking to a gentleman in the know about the oil industry, basically, there is a heck of a lot of oil and natural gas left.

The biggest beneficiaries of this pipeline will be the Canadians and the Northern states of the US who will receive a higher price for their oil they are getting from shale and tar sands.

I believe the majority of Americans are in favour but as I understand it the pipeline will run through hundreds of miles of wilderness areas... Probably safer than trains of tanker cars though.

Ultimately the Americans/Canadians have a large amount of oil but it is not the cheapest to produce by a long way.

I do not think you will see an end to the coal mining industries or coal fired power-stations in Canada or America for 50 years- they are just too politically hot to handle.

Keystone was about transporting Canadian crude, getting it off railcars and trucks into a pipeline.
The big new field is the Permian basin in Texas and western New Mexico.

Solar and wind turbines have/are being installed in huge numbers, solar is a big deal in western states with sunshine 300 plus days yr its' a no brainer.
U.S. getting close to full energy independence.

Why would it lead to EU price rises or Chinese damage?
My take is it will, already has, caused a drop in prices world wide, the Irian oil will be looking for a non US home so will have to trade slightly lower than other oil and the Chinese will take all they can supply as long as it is cheaper.

Whilst it's an interesting point of view and opinion .. that doesn't pay the bills nor actually produce industrial products.

I don't share your fear or concern about CO2.

Because some countries are currently free to use Iranian Oil by a permit issued by the USA.

Those permits are not being renewed.

Saudi Arabia has stated that it will not necessarily increase production to match the loss of Iranian Oil - which was being sold to European states. The USA has good reserves and supplies .. unlike Europe.

I don't know what to make of it myself TBH. CO2 levels are rising for sure, but I've still an open mind as to whether that's a natural cycle or mankind is having an adverse effect. I think we could have a far more honest debate it if there wasn't so much money looking to profit from the scaremongering.

It's probably both .. as far as I can see it's a good thing CO2 is rising. At least we won't have another Ice Age any time soon and Life has more Carbon and nutrients to play with.

Would like to see deserts shrunk though.

There are theories that rising sea levels could fast track the planet to the next ice age.

I'd like to know why the Earth started to have Ice Ages .. for Billions of years the Earth never had any .. then "recently" each successive Ice Age has got deeper.

We as a race are VERY lucky .. humans almost died out during the last Ice Age. I think the population went down to a few 1,000s living on coastal regions.

No the earth did not have Ice ages for billions of years.
Earths climate has gone up and down. Just as the poles have shifted
The last series of ice ages started less than 3 million years ago and the latest was less than 15,000 years ago:eek:

Talking of pole reversals I think we are overdue one of those as well.
