13092022 March wood at JFIELD HH. Fatally damaged in Nov21 “Storm Arwen”.
I+J (neighbours) have harvester in today to fell the lot! Will certainly change the outlook and we will miss the shelter.View attachment 1063161

Change of scenery!

23092022 Marked 42 lambs at BF Cfield ready to go on Monday morning.

Real turn around from earlier in the week when, on driving round the mob, I was convinced I would only have around 20 ready to go.

Wormed around 10 runts (ovidrench).

25092022 Girls did very well at JRC Gymkhana today.

S on S picked up some blues and yellows on her first time unassisted!

R on B did very well in LR class with a red and some blues, but Daddy absolutely knacked now - last Gymkhana with me having to run??

26092022 41 lambs to Boswells “fat”.

16 Texel @ 42.5kg
17 Blue Texel @ 42.5kg
8 Suffolk @ 42.5kg

How all batches managed to same average weight beats me.

BT were £5/hd better than Texels. Suffolks were leaner and £2 less. Average 231p across all.

What a difference a month has made. When I started this thread and beginning of September we were still desperately short of grass.
Thank goodness we have had a growthy month. Maybe don’t quite have enough to take yowes right through to December, but should be not far off it.
Maybe I need to get sward stick and calculator out?

Pic today in WM XR field.

06102022 Started sorting yowes into tupping groups. Aprox 1 week later than 2021 in order to let grass grow; hopefully yowes are not too lean to catch up condition in time for tupping. Might put tups out 1 week later ie around 27th October rather than 20th??

Pic shows 38 yowes (heavy trailer!) into TopL field at WM. Mix of mules, older SuffMules, ChevShet etc - ie “breeders” (fingers crossed) for Levis to have first run with. 12? more to add to make a mob of around 50 for this field then H field.

07102022 finished sorting yowes off AB.

LTop Field now has 51 “breeding” yowes for Levis.

XR field has 59 Levis daughters (gimmers, 1 (double blue tags) 2 (yellow + pink double tags) and Sunny daughters (double green tag gimmers) for Elliot.

Front Field has 56 Texel X and SuffMule yowes for Sunny and Deano (The Blues Brothers!)

Pic shows Texel X gimmer very kindly gifted to S & R by a neighbour (long story). Now in Front Field mob.

These 3/4 Cheviot Shetland gimmers certainly look the part. Let’s see what sort of lambs they produce!

Not so many regular updates right now (17102022) as not much happening - basically the yowes are (hopefully) putting on condition, maybe even flushing ahead of tups going out later this week / early next week (decision yet to be made).

I have to post this pic to give me faith - if we get another drought like summer 2022, the grass can recover!

18102022 it has taken 6 weeks, but most badly burnt field, pic at beginning of September (WM Haugh Field) is now ready to graze. Pics to follow later this week when mob of tupping yowes is moved on.

20102022 Yowes moved onto this grass in WM Haugh Field from TL Field (lasted 2 weeks, quite good effort).
