Tupping, hows yours going?

Rams been out 4 days.....40% covered, never had them come on so quick.

Just under 400 ewes.

Bloody hope the weather in second half of Feb is kind!!
Good flush of grass last week or three with us. Ewes look very well especially some that I only weaned three weeks ago. No tups in here yet but they will be going in early I go by how the ewes look these days and go a bit early or late to try and hit the sweet spot for them condition wise for tupping can be lambing early March or early April depending on the year. One of my OCD mates can’t comprehend it

Mine have got another 5 weeks to wait, can't do another miserable march lambing so going to go back to a miserable April lambing instead. Turned out my new ram with the rest of the rams just now, watched them for about an hour....there's going to be some sore bums in the morning🙄

Sorted my little bunch out and chucked the tups in yesterday afternoon. One ran round like an idiot sniffing arses and pissing in the corners of the field. The 2 beltexs had a bit of a sniff and went back to grazing. I havent seen them yet today but there's a fair few ewe lambs in there so those little fat beltex best get their running shoes on. Haven't synchronised them this year so lambing will be a bit more of a drawn out affair but fingers crossed going a bit later this year the weather might be a bit Kinder. Probably won't be though!

Don't start till till November but almost had a disaster other night. 22 ram lambs in a small field nexr to the house ready to go to Ruthin market in the morning. 600 ewes 2 fields away..... ewes opened a gate and some cows I'd weaned broke another one and there was only one fence between them and a bloody big hole in it where the bull had been scratching 😬 (which I hadn't seen)
Needed milk so had to go to town to get some and noticed all these ewes in a field where they weren't meant to be 😬
Panicked ran to the quad and loosed the dogs and all 22 lambs were all where they were meant to be but looking at said hole trying to figure out a way through and 100 ewes there stood waiting for them while the rest wandered up the field seeing what all the fuss was about 😬
That would have been a bloody big mess by morning 😬😬😬😬😬😬

Three rams out, two of them doing well. The third one, well who knows 🤷 he shed the raddle harness on the first few days, finally caught him put it back on and two days later it was off again. Decided I'd go old school with marking keel, gathered him up in the corner of the field, give him a good old rugby tackle had him over the body I had him dead to rights, then he arose like something possessed and I held on as best I could for what seemed the length of the field, he proceeded to kick and trample me a couple of times til i let go and he trotted off casually back to the ewes. Third time I took half a dozen hurdles with me got him penned up with a half dozen ewes to keep him calm, went to take a grab for him and he cleared the hurdles like he was in a steeple chase, still had the wool in my hands 🤣. He's a new ram as well so fingers crossed he works.

Cant beat a bit of vim and vigour in a ram.....I tell me customers to keep an eye on them as they can be lively if near ewes before needed.

I've got a new ram and a Welsh ram, both very suspicious of me and are jumpers. My plan is to reverse the trailer up to near the gate and make a double height hurdle runway from the gate to the trailer. Entice the other six boys in with food and hopefully the 2 lunatics will follow so I can shut the gate behind them and get them all in the trailer. Trial run is going to be catching them for dipping, then the real job is bonfire night for tupping.
