Has he got other rams with him? 70-80 no problem.
Over half of my ram power is ram lambs. I usually run 2-3 ram lambs, a yearling and a mature 5-170 and after they’ve done those they’ll go through another 150ish, I’ve got 1 group of 2 ram lambs, 1 mature which have done 70ewes, on 110ewes now for 1 cycle and then they’ll be going into 200 ewes.
All of mine are homebred mind except the odd 1 bought in to stop inbreeding.

When you say well grown...... how has he been well grown, and just how well? If he's been well grown on ad-lib concentrates all his life, and just bought at a sale, his fertility may well be impaired by fat built up around his testicles. If he's over 40kg and been grown steadily, then 40 certainly won't be a problem (if he's fertile, of course).

Size is irrelevant to a degree.

If he is a fairly natural lamb 40 shouldnt be a problem i would never chance a lamb from a tup sale himself in a mob but give him the first cycle maybe and chase up with a proven tup. Lambs from a forage based system that have grown at there natural pace at 50 odds real kilos are my preference and normally home bred.
