About to spray a field ready for some gorilla rape for summer grazing, now we have a decent week long forcast.

Option 1- spray field 5 days pre mowing and direct drill after clearing the bales,

is the field too far headed/dense to spray pre mowing for an effective kill?

Option 2 cut and clear bales leave a week or so to green up and spray off before/after/on the day of drilling.

Is it ok to spray Azural very close to drilling will residual spray effect establishment?

Option 2, cleaner and you're not spraying your hay/silage. I'm impressed that you've got a decent forecast, our's is horrible. No idea what azural is

Aha...glyphosate basically. They say it's okay for pre-cutting grass, but it doesn't feel right. I'd let it green up after clearing your (unpolluted) bales, then spray. Good forecast to be fair. Are you in Spain?

Mow it off, bale it and spray it a week after mowing. How are you going to establish the brassica crop? It shouldn't be affected by the glyphosate if it is drilled as it won't see the light of day for at least a week after (direct?) drilling.

I personally would not spray a full grown up grass ley, I don't believe doing so will kill a lot of grass weed species which are likely well below the canopy of a typical ryegrass crop.

Mow bale imediatly plough and sow rape .

No spray. Broadcast the rape mixed with some compound fert it likes nitrogen.

It won’t be ploughed. Toyed with the idea of trying maize but for only a small acerage not worth the bother, easier to buy it in off a contractor.

Cut yesterday. Will be baled /monday/tuesday
Sprayed -DD- slurried/mucked/fert -grazed(cattle) -sprayed -DD back to grass in the autumn.
🤞

Defo spray before mowing , you save a good week get far better kill and your not drilling into grass thats grown while your waiting to spray it , i had to wait
3 weeks one year and it was not realy fit to spray then

You could drill it and spray it a few days after, but before the rape is through! I have done this with swedes 4 to 5 days after sowing and it was fine. You might get off with it even a week later if it's cold and dry.

This is what will likely happen and I’m keen to try out. Nothing ventured nothing gained. . Drill roll and spray before seed emerges .
