So,I'm after a new TV 48-50" probably depends what's cheap.
Couple of questions, is it worth getting a smart TV if I have a ps3?( ps4 will be my next purchase...)
And is it really worth going for a well known brand like say Samsung when I can save a fair chunk on a lesser brand. Are you just buying a name or are they actually better?

Thanks in advance. Tff's collective knowledge is always appreciated :)

just moved house and had to buy a new TV as old stuff was all built into the old place - best right now are LG OLED and Samsung SDTV's

smart TV very good but wouldn't influence choice as it can all be done with a £35 box like Fire TV etc (or your PS)

4k is a massive move on despite lack of content (netfilx has some and 4k BR available now) but they upscale none 4k to a VERY notable difference over HD

in a nut shell its down to ££££ - they do generally get better the more you spend really so simple as that

Better how? As in picture quality?

With regards to smart TV I've never really understood the attraction of browsing the internet on your TV :scratchhead:

4k picture is on a different level to HD - I was never really impressed by HD, a decent plasma it washed to see much difference between BBC and BBC HD - but 4k vs HD is like the difference between black and white vs colour even when it is just upscaled and not 4k - go look at a OLED LG vs others its on a different level, Samsung is close though for aLOT less £. Sony etc all miles behind those 2 right now

smart TV is good if you watch catch up channels, netflix, prime etc and some good apps like plex that I use a lot, cant imagine using aTV for internet though !

Only really use Netflix but got that on my PS. I guess smart TV comes with the package in general though if you go for 4k etc.
Might just go and buy some more sheep for the price of an lg though!

have had Sony tv's but disappointed with what was a slow and non intuitive menu system. Samsung is great but beware some of their software is lacking or not agreed with the catchup services yet.

I hardly watch terrestrial TV any more other than news and if I do its usualy catch up TV, netflix and Plex get most use from me

Samsung are value (still not cheap however) right now but LG OLED if you want the very best

This is me as well. I have a smart LG tv that a couple of years old. Hardly watch anything on TV anymore, tend to do a full series on netflix then find something else I like. Only problem with this is I miss the start of a new series of something I have watched as I don't see the adverts!
In contrast my parents got a "wifi ready" tv and I have to say it is pointless. They have no apps and can't download any either so all they can do is throw something to it from a tablet or laptop and I don't think they have the tech know how to do it. Love my LG though. Plugged it in and away I went straight away.

We had a b&w tv when I was young,a new colour tv when I was about 12 was a day of days..That too lasted forever but when I'd had enough of it playing up I decided to get a tidy one.I'm a bit of a Phillips fan by and large but irrespective of that,.. we have an independent electrical goods showroom locally that sells loads of tv's and must have about 25-30 up on the wall on display and you could see immediately that you get what you pay for,the picture quality was markedly better the higher up the range you go.(and don't get tricked into buying one that's way too big, they don't look out of place on a big wall in a big showroom, people get them set up in the house at home&it's like sitting in the front row of a cinema..)

Had LG LCD & LED ,,
As with any tv these days you really want a sound bar or 5.1 kit for quality sound as the speakers are so small .
With LG you get generaly get 3 HDMI ,sometimes 4 .
I found a 42inch screen is plenty big enough as the bigger you go the further away you have to sit to see it properly .
