Types of North Country Cheviot

So I’d like to maybe get into a few NC Cheviots folks...only thing is they are new to me and don’t really know the intricacies of the breed to be honest. Can someone explain the different types to me please .ie. difference between hill and park types etc. I’d cross a few with a BFL for the ChevMule ewe lamb but what about the Border Leiceste for the Halfbred type lamb? Is it as good a cross?

I mainly run Scotch Mule x Texel or Suff ewes and have never worked with the Cheviot before so I’m a bit green I happy to admit.

Going for a look Wednesday but not needing anything this year. Park tups avg around 1000 last week so I heard. Females were a big trade as well, but not huge numbers forward.
Will have to work out who you are and have a bleather, shame they’ve split the ewe sale but it will mean I get home a lot sooner and save me being tempted to fill the trailer

Anyone of to Lockerbie this week, I will be there in the Wednesday, heard Park tips were a strong trade last week

I had been intending going, but I'm at Carlisle all day on Thursday so need to stay home and crack on dosing ewes so I don't fall behind with jobs

Haven't heard anything from tups last week, but yeah I heard the females were very expensive!

Sadly not going to make it now, wrenched my back yesterday turning ewes, and a jolly to Lockerbie, I can probably do without.
Would have been going to catch-up

Definitely less sheep there than before, but the sheep there were looking a credit to all the vendors.
Chap beside me reckoned 2000 less this year .
Prices would have held up well. I missed the start of the older ewes but the best prices I saw were Douglas of Whitehope got £122 for his best pen of 40 five yr olds. Plenty of others in the high 80’s to 100 .
Strong gimmers making £140 , ewe lambs to £110.
Plenty of grumbling why the tups are being sold tomorrow, and not making it a 1 day sale ! Then the show rolls on to Lairg next Tuesday!

Yep, big mistake splitting the day, I am there tomorrow but would normally pick up a few gimmers as well as a tip

Most folk seemed happy today considering the way things are, first tip I picked made £6000. Bid a few of my fancied ones up to the thousand pounds mark then got two I liked for nice money. One has a bit of black on a leg which probably put a few folk off and the other was a bit tender in his feet but I looked like scald so wasn’t bothered.

Will try and get some better photos tomorrow, but width, length, good fleece, tight skins and of course good legs and teeth. I go for a more female looking narrow head but the ones with the big bull heads are wanted by some for crossing but are getting less and less as folk go for easy lambing types.
