Umbilical pipe size

Anyone using 4.5 inch layflat pipe with standard 4 inch couplings, either stortz or Bauer? Don't want to go to 5 inch because I've multiple permanent underground road crossings and mains etc that are all 4 inch and don't want to need a pile of adaptors. Maybe nobody uses 4.5 inch, I've just noticed it on some pipe spec sheets. Tia

I think you can get a 4”storz with a 4 1/2” tail. And you can definitely get 4 1/2” segmented bindings. Other option is to get a 4” storz with a female 4”bsp thread and use a 4”bsp male thread to a 41/2” hose tail.

Thanks for replys. If I had to step up to bigger hose tails etc the stortz might start getting bulky like a Bauer so reducing its compact design. Probably best just to stick with 4 inch or upgrade to some 5 inch

You can’t fit a 4 inch storz on a 4 and a half but you can on a Bauer, make sure the band it is on bloody tight though! ...

4 inch too 4 and a half adaptors are a pittance tbh I wouldn’t not buy 4 and a half just because of that... if you can afford it go 5 though...

The adaptors look like this

I use 1200m of 4.5” snaptight,I’m still on original Bauer couplings apart from the drag hose which has a 4” Bauer on the end.
it’s never given any problems or blown coupling off.

Do you mean you have 4.5 bauers in the 4.5 inch pipe and then a 4 inch drag hose with 4 inch to couple to the spreader?
