Umbilical reeler sides

Does anyone know what type of plastic is used on the side of the reel? or a suitable plastic for the job?

I know these ones are molded but just a simple colored sheet would do.

Also is the side sheeting useful from a practical point of view or is it just for the looks?

Thanks

A lad said he covers them incase the pipes expand a bit out through the bars and catch on the sprocket or just the side because it's happened before.

I'd always thought they were made covered just for the look of it so that's what got me debating then.

if youre always using it yourself and therefor take care reeling in you wont need the plastic........if youre sending staff out at some point they will reel it on fluffy/with air in the pipe and it will bulge through the side and get ripped by the chain/sprocket. and yes to stop people sticking there arm through.
