I understand now I didn't realise that CAT scanners use a generator only ever seen men at the side of the road with hand held ones
If you attach the wire to a set of drain rods then poke 'em up the pipe. The CAT genny clips onto the wire, the earth stake is in the ground. Switch the genny on, activate your CAT scanner and you'll find the pipe run in seconds. Same for water pipe but high tensile wire is used instead of the drain rods.
If your pipe is METAL it will work using the genny as it should be. There's a O shaped clip like a pair of scissors just for this that goes over METAL pipes. If this METAL pipe turns into PLASTIC anywhere along its length the search will fail but at this point but you will get an idea of the pipes direction unless it dramatically alters course where the PLASTIC starts!How about wrap the wire from the genny to the pipe and will become the conductor?....should work?

Seems like Everytime I dig a hole I manage to find a drain or a water pipe.
