Undersowing a poor cereal

I have a poor piece of wheat with a few holes, and a number of hare wheelings. I would quite like to spin something on to hopefully fill in some gaps, and maintain some soil structure once the crop has had an application of broadway star. Considered a clover but was looking into any other suggestions if anyone has any?

Maybe just drill over the bare patches with some spring wheat, and then squirt a litre of glypho over those areas a couple of weeks before you combine the field as a whole?
