Afternoon all,

We need to do some updates to the forum. I'm proposing to start this work just after 9am tomorrow (21/04/2016) and it should be done by around 10am.

There's a chance you'll see some cows during this time :) If you continue to see cows ( instead of the forum) please try clearing your cache & cookies.

Thank you,

The TFF Team

Anyone reading this and unable to log in due to being unable to remember your password.

First of all if you have allowed your browser(chrome/Opera/Firefox etc) to 'remember you'
Go to your browser 'Settings'
Then 'Privacy & Security'
You should then see similar to 'Manage saved Passwords'
Click this, find The Farming Forum in the list, click that and show password.

If you have not selected to allow your browser to remember you, TFF will not be in the list.
So please use this Contact Us link and you password can be re set.

You will also be asked if you want to be 'remembered' by your preferred browser, tick that

Ok cleared my cache & history
The first time I log in again I see this

It may be a little different Dependant on which browser you use to view TFF

By allowing this, it will store your password in security section of your browser.
By ticking the one I have shown in the earlier post, that remembers your user name & prompts you each time you log in, or if you just close the TFF window, you stay logged in.

I think you will have to clear cache to force this to happen.

There are basically two ways to store your passwords with any website.

1. The website stores your login details. This is what happens when the "stay logged in" button is checked
2. The browser stores your user name and password, which is what @llamedos showed above.

When TFF stores your website we write a cookie onto your computer which is essentially a little file with a unique number to you in it. In our servers we also store that same unique number and use it to see if you've logged on / requested to log on and the request is actually you.

Some of you will of been signed out today as part of the upgrade we deleted the unique numbers from our servers, and therefore we didn't know whether you were logged on or not any more :(

The other reason you can be signed out is if your ip address changes, we don't have any control over that one!

Apologies for those who got logged out earlier. It wasn't out intention to delete the unique numbers from our servers but bad things happened and we were forced to. Full post to follow.

Today's Upgrade.

Afternoon all,

Today's upgrade has now been rolled out.

Things that have changed:

You should now see a little green padlock (HTTPS) in the corner of your browsers, this is telling you that all the information being sent from your computer to our servers and back again is being encrypted. This makes TFF much more secure than it was earlier.

As part of the upgrade we also updated the version of Xenforo ( which is the software which runs TFF ) and various plugins we use for functionality like tagging users. This included some extra security and bug fixes.

We upgraded the software which runs Xenforo ( PHP ) to the latest version. This should make TFF faster and hopefully save us some $$$ in the long run as it uses less processing power and memory to run the site than older versions of PHP.

We fixed a bug with classifieds which was allowing banned users to contact forum users, if you're banned from the forum you're now banned from classifieds.

Users who submitted CDP points over 12 months ago can now re-submit these points again. You should have a received a private message from us if this is the case, this will automatically happen in future now too.

A few other general tweaks ( ignore new posts is now a link under the user options menu etc )

What went wrong

I buggered up!

Despite testing on my dev environment I completely forgot some fundamental differences to running TFF on my laptop locally, to TFF running in "The Cloud". The biggest problem here was that Xenforo was unable to tell that it was running in secure mode ( HTTPS ). This caused some of the files necessary to make the site function fail to load correctly and as such many people would have seen cows. This was fixed using some frantic Googling... ( Thanks to @admin for his help here )

The other problem we had was that for non-logged in users viewing certain threads would again cause the "cows" to appear. This was due to a bug in some of the thread template code which manifested itself when we upgraded to the latest version of Xenforo.

I promise not to touch anything for at least a few days now ;) Please report any more problems here and we'll investigate.

Thanks

The TFF Team
