Upgrading trailer wheels to flotation tyres

I've got a pair of Marston 12t grain trailers which currently run on super singles. I would like to move to a bigger flotation tyre. Marston have told me that the axles on the trailer will not take flotation tyres.
Is it better to try and sell both of these and buy one decent trailer and hire another for harvest or to change the running gear on both? We only really use the trailers for harvest and odd times during the rest of the year moving grain about.
We generally stick to tramlines as much as possible but if we do unload on the move sometimes it is shocking the damage trailers do when off the tramline.

I have retro fitted flotation tyres to 4 trailers now. They were all fitted with super singles when I bought them. Trailers were 10, 11 and 12t sizes.
Supplier worked out where the dishes had to be welded within the rims when I gave him chassis width and axle lengths.
Ask Marston why their axles wont carry the same weight on different wheels? Are they just concerned that the tyres might stick out beyond the body?

I'm guessing they are probably ag axles on the Marstons, with 6 or 8 studs, and Marstons fear that either the studs will shear or the bearings will fail when turning with floats.

If this is the case you might be able to find some old steel sprung artic axles to just weld underneath, but it'll probably be more cost effective to just change the trailers.

where did that come from?

I asked about this on an old bff thread, got a marston 8 tonner on 6 stud hubs, and the tyres you are after are michelin xp 27's. I asked because I could not recall the tyre size needed, as I once did a harvest on a farm near banbury, and the manager had michelin xp27's on all the marston 10 tonners there, they were on 6 stud axles, and his only word of caution was not to screw the trailer round too sharp on the concrete whilst full, as he reconed the hubs would eventually fail if this was the case, but the manager was a cautious bloke. I am thinking of this upgrade, but then again, it's going to be about a 1500 quid upgrade, or thereabouts, and at the end of the day, I'm still lumbered with the poxy brakes thar come with 6 stud axles. Who today is going to buy a marston tentonner on 6 stud axles? is what I would be asking myself. It will cost more than 3k to trade in your two trailers for one worth having, to me the upgrade is the best option, you would then still have your trailers to use when you want them. Kirkby wheels and tyres are the people to speak to about floatations.

Thanks for all the replies.

There are leaf springs on the axles. I think Marston were worried as they are only an ag spec axle and they might not take the strain of turning on concrete as Andrew says above, also they will stick outside the body width of the trailer.

XP27's are actually narrower than super singles.

Is the damage you are doing to the fields worth more than the cost of buying (for once a year use) 8 flotation tyres and rims ??? How often do you run off the tramlines? Could you use the money for something else?

you can not put a monetary value on floats over the damage super singles do.
