Urea and potatoes

What are you asking? Do you not do any soil tests or do you just apply what the crop is due to remove from the soil? Any eelworm egg counts?

Does anyone use urea as a base fertiliser when growing potatoes? We use mop, Keiserite and urea before planting. Any thoughts/advice

I'm suprised that you have no Phosphorus in the base?

We spin Kieserite and MOP onto the previous stubble in Feb usually (lots of rented land in ows schemes prefer us to stay off til after 15th)
Either spin 26N35S onto the ploughing pre ridge or into the bed with an applicator on the front of the Nematicide tiller tractor
Then place DAP below the mother tuber at planting
Balance of N as liquid, mixed with the herbicide applied 3-4 weeks after planting (so just pre emergence)

I see no reason not to use Urea though

Yes we do soil tests and we do have some pcn in odd fields. The reason I was asking was that nobody we know uses urea as the nitrogen in the seed bed. We did have a field with internal rust this year and we are just going through everything we do to try to minimise the risk. We are on very sandy soils.

Internal rust spot is more of a symptom of low Calcium, when you Sample get the calcium / magnesium ratio and if it's low think about an early application of gypsum or use CAN fert (expensive) I can't see how urea will have any effect on IRS.
Just my opinion....

Yep, did know about calcium but good idea about calcium/magnesium ratio. Thanks
