Found the panels at “panel sell” down near London but delivery is between £500-600 depending on who can deliver it by Tuesday. Anyone know of someone doing return journey ?

Probably a bit late now, but a built up system would have worked just fine. Liner panel (tin sheet) with an ashgrid system fixed on top (to create the void) Lay rockwool in the voids, then tin sheet on top.

I have a cold shed, which has a sheeted roof, could we buy some insulated backed sheets and screw them straight on top of the existing sheets, without using a grid system? Thanks

It would be recommended to fix to a grid system as fixing the insulated panels directly to the exisiting sheeting wouldn't give the correct pull out test as you would be fixing to a 0.5mm or a 0.7mm steel sheet. The idea of a grid system is to distribute the new roof weight through to the exisiting roof purlins so it would also be worth checking the structure would be able to take the extra loadings.

If you were going to fix composite panel over an existing box profile roof sheet, you would have to take out any fixings which were on the crown (top) of the sheet ie lap stitchers. To fix the new composite sheet you would use a longer fixing to go through the existing sheet and into the purlin. However, unless you can get hold of some cheap composite, using a spacer bar, insulation and single skin topsheet would work out cheaper.
