USB Disconnection - Windows 11

Anybody else ever have trouble with USB disconnecting?

I have a Kingston G4 SD card adaptor that plugs into the USB port of my PC but whenever I try and transfer files, all USB ports (keyboard, mouse, UPS cable) including the SD card adaptor disconnect as if something has crashed.

Is there an overload issue or something?

I've had similar in the past- I think it is because the device I was connecting or the cable involved was on it's way out.

Check the USB drivers.
Should be part of the motherboard driver set, they do get updated occasionally.
Go into Computer Management and then look in Device Manager.
Right click on the USB Hub device(s) shown and select 'update driver'.

Our windows 11 laptop sometimes forgets that it is able to detect and use the printer from its usb port.

Basically it's quicker to write out what ever you want to print, rather than mess about turning laptop on off, checking drivers etc

Thanks, I've just given this a try and it tells me I already have the latest drivers installed.

my suggestion would be to try swapping each device (oldest first) and see if the problem goes away.
one of them might have a fault or a short.
If you have another SD reader, try that and see if the problem still happens, then you'll get to the bottom of the issue.

it's also possible that the laptop has a faulty port.
Are you using any sort of a usb hub?
Usb stuff normally can sense shorts and shut themselves off to protect the rest of the computer, so could be a device and or usb hardware issue

Thanks all for your help.

As a test I ordered up an Anker USB SD card reader yesterday which arrived today. Tested the same card.....in the same port on the PC. Files transferred perfectly.......much faster....and it didn't crash.

Seems like @ollie989898 was spot on - dodgy hardware in the Kingston USB reader.
