Vaccar wash diverters

Has anyone any idea how reliable the old style Vaccar wash diverters are? We have an old Herringbone parlour Mid jar (which is a rarity ) and we are having trouble with milk entering the glass vacuum jar in the dairy via the wash line (the vacuum jar is connected to the stainless milk tank over the milk pump)
Its definately coming in via the wash line and at times there is 2- 3 gallons in there !!!
The diverters are second hand to start with , so maybe 15 -20 yrs old ,but they are really just 2 poly balls in a plastic housing , that should just stay shut with vacuum ?
I had thought that the milk was entering the jar because the stainless tank was getting overfull ,but its 110 % the wash side ,so the diverters are the only way (apart from a cow filling the jar and that rarely gets to happen I think!
I would ask my man but hes indisposed at the minute

Hmmm, I think the only way the milks getting in the wash line is one of the recording jar being too full !! The milker swears not but It must be the only physical way it can be because the diverters need the jar full before they would allow milk back into the line??
Not sure if I am missing something

On our old jar parlour the only way we could get milk in the glass vacuum jar was either the milking jars being too full or overflowing from the stainless milk receiver.

Thanks , that confirms what I had worked out I think!! I use a choke valve on the pump and the other half was convinced it was my fault as the vessel was perhaps getting overfull?
But now I can see it must be overful parlour jars (all these Shropshire high yielders :censored:)

Yes it could easily be the stainless receiver being over full, how big is the receiver?
I am not sure , however the milk I observed was defo coming in from the wash line and not the line joiner between the glass jar and reciever . So in other words the vessel wasnt responsible for that!! Occassionaly you will get a few drops coming in !
So how can it get in the wash line ? Only when the parlour jars get full. The other half admits thats what it might be:love:
I suspected the diverter , but they could only leak it back when the jars full
