Vacuum pump - dropping pressure.

My vacuum pump is losing pressure, usually runs at 50kpa and is dropping to 40kpa unless the reservoir is bang full of oil. It then proceeds to dump the excess oil out of the exhaust and the pressure drops again. Any ideas as to the cause, please?

When was it last serviced? Replace it with a water ring vacuum pump, no more oil plus there so much quieter.

Not sure when it was last serviced tbh. It was a spare which was running very well, but I'd replaced it with a bigger one some years ago. When I moved and needed a smaller pump again , we rigged it up and it ran perfectly until a few days ago. Farmer-stylee, I suppose

Quieter ,requires no oil, and should do well over 20 years before needing bearings, more consistant vacuum.

Over time the outer casing will wear and become rippled. This can wear a new set of vanes very quickly.

I think @onesiedale is referring to a lobe pump? No oil either, apart from annual change.
