I could get peas through my Vaddy on standard coulters, never tried Beans as they are bigger, and thought it would be asking for trouble

Drilled spring beans with standard coulters. No problems and not a single blockage. Can’t remember the rate off the top of my head but it was a fairly high rate and I was travelling at normal speed, around 14-16k.

I tried drilling winter beans with a rapid 300 box drill. The beans got stuck in the coulters and jammed the feed rolls, twisting the drive shaft. I think it depends on the size of your beans.

Had the occasional blockage with spring beans on standard coulters, I'd say winter beans would be no end of trouble. I'd say they would be harsh on the metering unit as well, calibrating spring beans was an effort to turn the metering wheel !

We tried with a 6 m 2015 build at around 300kg rate. Blocked at the coulter. The metering devices could take it but the coulter ends were too small and blocked badly. Changed to bean coulters for everything and not a problem now. Spring beans are normally fine through a standard coulter - it is only winter beans that gave us the problem.

Done springs ok with 2008 8m and 2000 6m. More blockages with Spaldings coulters than genuine. You can get sprung loaded slides for metering mechanism to take a bit of stress off

Are the bean coulters the same just with a wider/longer slot? Have an ancient rapid here with accord metering and i don't know whether it has ordinary or bean coulters fitted. TBH with how small the bean sample from last harvest was I imagine i will get away with it if i don't drive too fast and keep the fan speed up. This supposes that it dries up enough to use it mind..........
