Worn synchromesh between gears.

I had a 10plate n141 the gearbox was poor between ranges, you had to near stop to change range.?

But the thing is, it doesn’t grind going up the gears, it’s only when I try to go down
It will be only one side of the synchro that is worn.
If you imagine you have two gears and in between you have a synchro one side of the synchro marries up the 3rd gear and the other side of the synchro marries up the 4 th gear .
The 4th gear side is obviously still
Ok as you can go from 3rd to 4th with no noise but when returning from 4 th to 3rd it crunches it will
Most likely crunch from 2 nd to 3rd as well as it is the part of the synchro responsible for 3rd that is faulty.

Ok thank you very much , would it be a big job to get the synchromesh replaced??

Thanks so much, would it be a big job to get it replaced and how much would it cost.??

Have you calibrated the tractor lately?. Like all newer computer controlled machines these days they need a tune up every now and then to have everything working as it should. Our old T160 used be a lot nicer on the power shifts and gear changes after it was calibrated. There's a sequence you do to get the tractor to self calibrate a dealer might give you or perhaps someone here can explain. I can't remember how it was done on the T160 now.

I was presuming it was the hi-tec box,the original poster never said which gearbox he had.
