Valtra v John Deere

Do you think valtra may be gaining sales from mf and fendt if they are indeed gaining.
Yes I’d say valtra are taking out more Massey and Fendt , looking at the 2018 figures shows that , I know the new valtra dealer in Scotland who switched from Massey sold over 80 new valtras in his first year. A lot of those were to Mf men. My valtra dealer took in a lot of JD tractors last year along with a few Massey and fendt. They are selling twice as many new valtra since the t4 series came out.

My local jd dealer sells 550 tractors a year

@agri knives you certainly stick up for your brand and have lots of experience with them. In this thread the OP is talking about the latest model tractors. How many of them do you run. I seem to remember most of your fleet were from the older range? I may be confusing you with someone else.
The OP needs views on the most up to date smaller Valtra's. Do you own one?

Regarding Deere, I believe any head gasket issue was sorted out with the R series, which was released all the way back in 2012.
I have a 254 here two years now ,100% trouble free . Have a new 234 on the way soon , the oldest I have is a 6400 which is working away at 25 years old. Not many contractors running 25 year old tractors .

Dealer has a lot to do with it. Overall figures only tell part of the story. Usually when you break it down into areas it isn't just about the machine.

So no experience of the newer N series?
How many hours on the 6400. 25 years in a contracting fleet would be well over 25,000 hours?

I have a classic tractor mag here from September 20 that adds up registrations of new tractors each year in the UK.
2019 total for Valtra, they say, 721 which was up from 651 in 2018.
Only 11 sold in NI, I guess they're more popular in the south?
I don't think they are official numbers though.

I have no idea. Was told direct can be trouble. Likely true as there’s direct ones advertised with gearbox repaired or gearbox trouble
Oh bugger oh bugger oh bugger

What have I done?

I bought a Direct for loader work!

The gearbox is going to break????

Do you know that in the entire year that I spent looking for a second hand N series direct, I never saw not a single one advertised that had gearbox trouble? Never even heard from a man in the pub about gearbox problems?

Oh bugger 😜

My local JD dealer did 80 in a month so I dont think
they're too worried about the odd one or two escaping.

I don't think they should get too complacent, dealer change's worldwide will certainly cost them some sales. In this area there seems to be a shift from all Deere fleets to adding some different brands, since the local dealer wanted to retire and was told only the competing dealer could take over.
Whether it impacts profits at Deere HQ is another matter.

I think of them as the Apple of the tractor world, pretty good product and brand recognition, available around the world but do tend to upset a lot of people.

i wouldn't bother with a new one, major things that go wrong should have gone wrong by 700 hours. 1 year manufactures warranty doesn't last long! Bet theres a 20/25k saving on a new one. And no waiting list. It will have lost its main depreciation so cost of owner ship should be less.
