Valtra v John Deere

Still slow on the flat with no load
I had a 200 ish hp one on demo late one autumn and really couldn't get on will it and I've put 10'000's of hrs on range command tractors, said to the demo driver who came early in the frosty morning to take it to the next demo that I wasn't impressed by the gearbox he said you get used to it, then as he pulled out of the flat yard there was enough delay with the cold oil to stall the tractor on the range change. He looked so embarrassed.

Yes there’s definitely a delay slower than other models too

It's neither

The range changes are fully robotised, shifting in fractions of a second.

BUT if you press the button for a shift when pulling 20 tonnes up hill, it seems like they're slow because, surprise surprise, gravity makes the tractor slow down

Why? Because it's a full declutch range change. Those who complain haven't had to learn the art of full double declutching to match rpm, up AND downhill

Delays in gear changes can be very ver y dangerous in the wrong circumstances. Like on the road, where you are pulling out at roundabouts. Fudging NH Nopower command are known for this.

Ålö are the choice for quite a few tractor named loaders must be a good reason

Ålö loaders are solid.

In my opinion, when looking for a top performing front loader, the hydraulic valves and their control system are just as important as the actual loader. All hydraulic valves are not created equal and not all hydraulics deliver the same precision and sensitivity during use.
So for example, marrying up a premium loader like the Ålö Q-Series with poor quality tractor hydraulics will not give the best result in use.

I see many Valtra people are in this tread so i give it a chance to ask. I just get a extra beef farm (one on my wife side loose the battle with Covid) It's not optimal but what shall I do, when the farm be in there family for generation. The problem is the machinery are bad, and is 60km from my farm, so i need a loader tractor there to feed (most roundbale). Normaly i should by a 5S.145 beacuse i do a 3 year deals with my dealer and shift the tractor after that. But the problem is the dealer not have any to take on the day (must wait 6to7 weeks)

We have allways have Massey, but have a friend how sell Valtra and he have a N134 Direct with loader and it have only 15h beacuse it have stand in the shoowroom. And in my eyes the price is very low, of course is my friend, but are i missing something about this model and it's crap our something? (Price is around 46K£ our 550K sek)

This is the problem to buy only one brand, i have never in my life drive a other tractors then Massey. And I now nothing about other brand more then when a neighbour bought something and you speak a little about it.

Direct gearbox likes to shyte itself but many on here have them and have no trouble

That what i think to, is only gone use for feeding. The only thing i think of, it gone be diffrent driver how use it. So optimal should be a basic as possible, but i need it now and this what i can get to a good price.
Well if it’s any consolation whatever gearbox you choose on any tractor someone will come along and say it can go wrong so just buy it. If the money is right then jobs spot on

Dirty hands.. Inside the cab?!?
Gods! If my father had seen me doing that outside of a real emergency he'd have kicked me out of the cab and near on disowned me on the spot.
Feeding outdoor livestock in winter it’s impossible to stay clean and dry… some winters days here you just about loose your welly’s in mud and get soaked threw just getting out the tractor to open one gate

Biggest problem for arable farmers in the winter is making sure they don't get snow on the Chalet carpet.

That's snow as in frozen rain.....I think 🤫

Dirty boots is one thing but with the hands all that's needed is to wear gloves which are then left in the toolbox. Possibly on the floor right inside the door...
